Buccellati — "THE DANCING SERPENT" NECKLACE
£556,200.30
A symbol of movement and perpetual transformation, the spiral motif has fascinated artists and architects for centuries. Its most celebrated expression can be found in the twisted columns that define some of Italy’s greatest masterpieces, from the architectural wonders of Villa d’Este in Tivoli to Bernini’s magnificent Baldacchino in St. Peter’s Basilica. It was the visionary Gianmaria Buccellati who brought this distinctive design to life in jewelry through the Torsadé collection. The pinnacle of this sinuous aesthetic is a unique parure he conceived in 2012. Drawing inspiration from Charles Baudelaire's poem "The Dancing Serpent," he masterfully translated the iconic spiral motif and its fundamental lines to capture the fluid movement of one of humanity's oldest mythological symbols: the Snake. As a tribute to Chinese astrological signs and his esteemed clientele in the Far East, Gianmaria elevated the animal's interlaced, undulating forms by setting vibrant pink sapphires within a yellow gold roped structure, achieving an impressively original and captivating effect.
