Château Calon-Ségur is the most northerly of the Médoc Grand-Crus Classés and is renowned for wines with excellent purity of fruit and great longevity. The 2006 is a high-quality follow-up to the brilliant 2005 which is no mean feat given the contrasts in the general vintage conditions. A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, it is elegant and expressive, offering up lovely notes of cassis, black cherry, dried herbs and tobacco. Though now entering its peak drinking phase, this should continue to evolve nicely over the next decade or two.
