The Chave family has reportedly been producing wines in the Rhône Valley since 1481 and is unequivocally one of the most famous producers of Hermitage. Cuvée Cathelin is an ultra-exclusive luxury wine which made its debut with the 1990 vintage. It is named after a close family friend, artist Bernard Cathelin, and is produced mostly from Syrah from the Les Bessards lieu-dit with an extended period of maturation in new French oak. Only made in selected vintages production is strictly limited to around 200 cases. The 1998 is a remarkably full-bodied, concentrated and tannic release, with incredible richness of fruit and unending savoury complexity.
