This is a rare vintage Bas-Armagnac from Domaine de Cépède, distilled in 1938 and bottled decades later after long ageing in oak. As with all vintage Armagnac, extended cask time has mellowed the spirit into something soft and complex, typically showing dried fig, prune, walnut and gentle spice, with the rounded warmth that comes from many decades in wood. Bottled at a modest, well-integrated strength, it is best sipped slowly, neat, as a reflective after-dinner spirit, and makes a genuinely rare gift for the serious collector.
