Château Latour à Pomerol 1988 is a mature-vintage, Merlot-based red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Managed by Jean-Pierre Moueix of Pétrus and Trotanoy fame, Latour à Pomerol is one of the leading estates in Pomerol, boasting 8ha of vineyards primarily cultivated with Merlot, accompanied by 10% Cabernet Franc. Typically the grand vin of the property is fermented in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless-steel vats, and matured in 50% new barriques for 18 months. "Licoricey, Chinese black tea, dried herbs, and some plum and fig-like fruit as well as freshly ground pepper emerge from the complex aromatics of the dark garnet-coloured 1988 Latour a Pomerol. In the mouth the wine shows good concentration, some sweetness, but a somewhat chunky, monolithic style with scratchy tannins in the finish." Wine Advocate, 2003
