Trotanoy sits on the Pomerol plateau near Petrus, on deep clay and gravel soils that give firm, structured wines from (90%) Merlot fruit, supported by Cabernet Franc.1995 was a classic growing season producing balanced wines and this wine shows a mature garnet colour and a nose of truffle, damp earth, plum and tobacco leaf. The palate is firm and savoury rather than plush, with resolving tannins, good freshness and real length. Fully mature but not tiring, it should continue to drink well for years yet. Pair with braised beef or mature Comte.
