The Shepherd Mayfair Is Now Open

The Shepherd Mayfair, an 82-room boutique hotel on the edge of Shepherd Market, is now open.
The hotel, at 2 Stanhope Row, is owned by Bain Capital and Orka Investments in partnership. It covers 33,600 sq ft over six floors, with 70 rooms and 12 suites laid out along the lines of the area's old mansions. Rooms start at £500 a night.
The site is said to be that of Mayfair's oldest house, The Cottage, which dates from 1618. The hotel is named after Edward Shepherd, the architect and developer who created Shepherd Market in the 18th century, and the interiors weave in local history, from Morse and Braille details recalling nearby Down Street station to British art throughout.
Fayre, the 62-cover ground-floor restaurant, serves British and European dishes from breakfast to dinner beneath murals by the artist Adam Ellis. The Lounge, a 46-cover café and bar, has a terrace and a takeaway hatch onto the street.
A 72-cover cocktail bar, Teddy's, is due to open on the lower ground floor in November, focusing on lesser-known 1930s cocktails.
