Distilled in 1973 and bottled at eighteen years old, this Macallan shows dense dried fruit, orange marmalade and old leather, framed by antique oak and warm spice. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, with raisin, dark chocolate and clove, it finishes long with a gentle gaminess typical of the era and a final note of aged leather and dried orange peel. A serious, well-structured dram, distilled as Macallan`s stills reached twenty-one at the height of its 1970s expansion, and a superb marker of that pivotal decade.
