La Mission Haut Brion 2013

Price

£180.55

La Mission Haut-Brion, in Pessac-Léognan, is known for a firmer, more structured style than its neighbour Haut-Brion, built around a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon 43% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc grown on gravel soils. 2013 was a difficult, cool Bordeaux vintage, in which careful choices had to be made. La Mission clearly chose well - only Petrus and Haut Brion scored higher - and this wine reflects that. Ruby coloured, it has a light, approachable character with earthy autumn fruit, fine texture and gentle tannins. Elegant rather than powerful, it is already accessible and drinks well now with roast duck or mushroom dishes.
